Description
The Alto de Arrate is one of the most important climbs in the Basque Country. Between 1941 and 1986 the climbing course Subida al Arrate was organised here. The climb is 5.3 kilometres long and has an average ascent of 7.7%. The climb, which is lined with pine and acacia trees, is characterised by compact, steep hairpin bends. The climb gradually gets steeper, with maximum gradients of up to 13% between kilometres two and four. The last part is slightly less steep.
