Description
The northwest slope, on its longest profile, starts at Thônes for 16.5 km of ascent but is reduced to 10.3 km if you start from Saint-Jean-de-Sixt (crossroads of the D909 from Thônes, the road from Entremont and the D4 from Grand-Bornand). Up to La Clusaz, this slope is rather rolling but frequented by car traffic. From the kilometre before Saint-Jean-de-Sixt to La Clusaz, there is even a slight decline, with slopes at 3-4% compared to portions at 5-6% before. After La Clusaz, the percentages increase slightly but the slope remains moderate if not an 8% portion after the junction of the road to the Col de la Croix Fry. The last few kilometres are marked by large bends across the mountain pastures. The last km is in false flat. Overall, this slope is rather rolling and regular.
