Description

The climb was not often decisive in La Fleche Wallonne, until 2010 the year Francesco Casagrande won. The then 29-year-old Italian had had enough of the tactical joust between the favorites at thirteen kilometers from the finish and seized the climb of the Côte de Ahin to abandon the other favorites. He caught up with frontrunners Merckx and Verbrugghe and kept those two Belgians and the rest behind him on the final climb of the dreaded Wall of Huy.
