Description
The Molenberg, presented 34 times in a row in the Ronde van Vlaanderen, was one of the victims of the move from the start to Antwerp, as a result of which a detour along Sint-Denijs-Boekel was lost. At the same time, however, the hump made its way into the track of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, so that since 1983 it has remained uninterruptedly present in the classical spring.
In 2010, Fabian Cancellara smelled his chance to finally put the Ronde van Vlaanderen on his list of honour. On the Paterberg the peleton was reduces and with a heavy acceleration on the Molenberg Spartacus started his attack. Only Tom Boonen turned out to be able to get near him. Until that famous passage on the Muur van Geraardsbergen.
