Description
The summit can be reached by a road that starts from Cernobbio on Lake Como, passes through its hamlets Rovenna and Madrona and climbs for about 15 km to the summit of Monte (1,304 metres), a narrow and winding road with wonderful views of Como, the lake and the surrounding mountains. The road, in the stretch between the cemetery of Rovenna and the summit, was built during the First World War as part of the construction of the Northern Frontier, the defensive system popularly known as the "Cadorna line. Still today, near the cemetery of Rovenna, you can see the memorial stone indicating the beginning of the road and, just beyond, the chain that limited access to the military zone. In some panoramic points, but especially at the top on clear days you can enjoy a wide view of the lake and you can see the mountains (as far as the Apennines and Monviso) beyond the Po Valley.
