Description

The Nieuwe Kwaremont was together with the Tiegemberg the only slope in the Tour of Flanders from 1919 to 1927. Until 1965, the Kwaremont consisted entirely of cobblestones. From 1965-1966 (The reason why it was not included in the Rond van Vlaanderen in 1966) the slope was asphalted. The slope now became a simple obstacle for the riders. In 1973, the Oude Kwaremont, a street that climbs the same hill along the Kwaremont, was 'discovered'. In 1974, the Oude Kwaremont was immediately included in the Tour of Flanders and replaced this climb.
