Description

In 1822, the construction of a road linking Val Venosta with Milan was started. Barely three years later, the road was completed. The summit of this Stilfserjoch, as the Stelviopas is called by the German-speaking, is located at an altitude of 2758 meters exactly on the border of the Italian province of Sondrio and the German-speaking South Tyrol. In total, the Stelvio was recorded 10 times in the Giro d'Italia. In 1953, the Stelvio was included for the first time in the course of the Giro d'Italia. On top is a monument in honour of the Italian Fausto Coppi, who at the time was the first to pass the summit.
