Description
In 2017 the Tour of Burgos came up with the bright idea of finishing at the top of the Picón Blanco (7.8 km at 9.3%). Three years later this climb seems to be a stay in the Spanish stage race. In the hamlet Espinosa de los Monteros, the climb starts to an abandoned military base at an altitude of almost 1.500 meters. The first climb (at 6%) is still to be done for non-climbers, but after that, the percentages don't drop below 10%. By the way, the asphalt isn't too good, which makes the Picón Blanco even more difficult. In the last kilometer the road surface peaks at 15%.
Mikel Landa was the first winner of the Picón Blanco in 2017. In 2018 (Miguel Ángel López) and 2019 (Iván Ramiro Sosa) a Colombian party was celebrated.
