Description
Pikes Peak is a very long climb. The average gradient is 6,5%, and the summit sits at 4,301m of altitude. But don't let these numbers fool you, it has a part of 11km of almost 9%. It’s the second-highest paved road in the US, a few metres short of the neighbouring Mount Evans. For cyclists, access to the climb has historically been restricted to a single organized race per year. That was until 2013 when the authorities opened the Pikes Peak Highway to cyclists all year round.
