Description
The road was built by Franco in 1945 in order to get to his favorite hunting grounds.
In 2019 Pogacar claimed the stage win by means of a coupe on the Puerto de Pena Negra, and also took third place in the final classification. On the final climb to Plataforma de Gredos Quintana and López had to do it on their own, but Pogacar's lead remained around 1 minute and 40 seconds. That was enough to get Quintana off the podium, but not enough to threaten Valverde's second place. The Slovenian rider was able to celebrate his third stage victory in this Vuelta with a good lead over the competition. Valverde drove away from the group of favorites in the final kilometers, but Roglic kept him in his sights.
