Description
Endpoint: Pastra to the plateau
The service road of the Kalin and Karagyol reservoirs is suitable for MTB only as it is paved with old uneven concrete blocks.
The beautiful mountain region of Bulgaria, Rila, is home to the climb that ranks high in the world’s difficulty list. Starting in Rila in Pazardzhik, the route continues for 14.2 kilometres from a height of 750 metres to 2400 metres at the top point in Pastra. This Balkan brute averages nearly 12 percent and ramps up to 20 percent as you work your way up to its sharp granite pinnacle.
The surrounding scenery is glorious, so it’s a shame riders can’t look at much else other than their handlebars while gasping for air.
