Description
The ascent to the ski resort Schanze begins in Grafschaft near Schmallenberg in the Sauerland at 410 m altitude. Already in the village, it starts with a gradient of just over 10 percent, which hardly changes until the end of the village. Afterward, it goes into the forest, and one reaches the only serpentine in the ascent. Then the road leads straight uphill with a constant gradient of six to seven percent, which makes it possible to find your rhythm as long as you don't lookup. After having lost a few meters of altitude on a short descent, the route climbs steeply again towards the end. Shortly after the turnoff to the ski hut, one finally reaches the entrance to the village of Schanze at 720 m altitude.
