Description
Often mentioned together with the Furkapass and Grimelspass, this is for those who like their climbs long and steady.
On 16 June 1948 Richard Depoorter, a Belgian racing cyclist, crashed into a tunnel wall on a "descent of the Sustenpas during the 1948 Tour of Switzerland and died onsite or shortly thereafter due to his injuries. He won the 1943 and 1947 editions of the Liège–Bastogne–Liège. Some say he was run over by a car because the autopsy found multiple fractures and tire marks on his body.
