Description
If you like Gravel Bikes, this Shafer Trail (part of the White Rim Trail) should be almost at the top of your Bucket List. What a fantastic experience to cycle up this winding very steep and narrow road. Great views, as a reward for your efforts, over the Canyonlands (known from the Indiana Jones movies), but beware, it can be very hot there. The road was built in the 1950s by the Atomic Energy Commission to provide access to individual gold prospectors who planned to mine uranium reserves for use in the production of nuclear weapons during the Cold War. The mines did not contain much uranium and were soon abandoned.
