Description
Kingsettle Hill (locally known as Alfred’s Tower) leads to the famous folly and monument King Alfred’s Tower. Built on the vast grounds of the Stourhead Estate (famous for its folly’s) it apparently marks the spot where Alfred The Great gathered his troops in 878AD before beating the Viking army (led by Guthrum) at the battle of Edington.
