Description
This mountain became known in the Netherlands through the programme Wie is de Mol. In episode Year 6 (2006), Episode 8, the candidates had to cycle to this mountain peak of 4170 metres. The candidates had to climb 1000 altitude metres on the route they were cycling and the candidate who reached the top first received an exemption. Due to the altitude, this task was extremely difficult, as the candidates were also untrained. There was a fierce cutting wind and the air became increasingly thin as they climbed higher. Three of the four candidates have given up and only Frédérique Huydts is left. She is determined to get to the top and won't let herself be subdued. She cycles the last long stretch alone while her fellow candidates (who, according to the rules, could have blocked her from getting the exemption) cheer and applaud breathlessly with admiration. Even before the show was broadcasted, and she became the eventual winner of the game, Frédérique died of the debilitating disease bowel cancer.
She donated the amount she won to the World Wildlife Fund and Foundation Kika (Children Cancer-free Foundation).
