Passo del Turchino

Le Passo del Turchino est un col de 2.3 kilomètres. C'est un col de la catégorie 4. Il est situé à Masone, Liguria, Italie. La pente moyenne de ce col est de 5.3% avec un maximum de 8.4%. Le Passo del Turchino monte de 428 mètres au départ à 548 mètres au sommet, pour un total de 120 mètres d'ascension.

Description

Oldest climb in Milan Sanremo which is still used in the race. In 1910 there was so much snow at the top that of the 63 participants only four made it to the finish. Fausto Coppi was in 1946 the last rider who came over the top of the Passo del Turchino first and also won in Sanrome (by 14'00"). In recent years, the climb has not proven selective.

In 2001 and 2002 the Turchino Pass was not present in the route of Milan-San Remo for the first time in 94 years, due to a landslide near the locality of Fado. The riders took an alternative route those years via Passo Bric Berton (762 m).

In 2013 the course of Milan-Sanremo was shortened by 46 kilometers during the race due to bad weather conditions. Both Passo del Turchino and Le Manie were skipped by the peloton.

In 2020, at the 'restart' of the season, some mayors of the Province of Savona were opposed to the arrival of the bunch in their municipality, which drastically changed the route. As a result, famous climbs such as the Turchino and three Capi were removed from the course. The climbs of the Niella Belbo and the Colle di Nava were added to the course as replacements.

In the 2021 edition, Milano-Sam Remo did not go over the Turchino, but over the Colle del Giovo. The Turchino is impassable during the spring classic because of a landslide in the approach of the climb.
