Description
The road gets its name from a series of sharp switchbacks near the top. The local rides also call this climb the "mini Alpe d'Huez". The Corkscrew Road has appeared for the first time in the Tour Down Under in 2013. Geraint Thomas took the stage by escaping on the climb of Corkscrew Road at ten kilometers from the finish line. This was also the base of his overall victory in the Tour Down Under 2013.
In 2014 Cadel Evans famously stole the show and won the stage after also attacking Corkscrew Road. The descent to Campbelltown is a really nasty one where riders get up to speeds of 105 km/h. In 2016 and 2019 it was a sprint of a small group.
