Steady climb from Motril, with good asphalt and little traffic. Very popular with local cyclists on their way to Las Alpujarras.
On the way up you can enjoy views of the sea and the pine forests of the area, before passing through the tunnel at the top and dropping down to Vélez (don't miss the pestiños, a typical sweet of Arabic origin).
