Opis
It became famous in 1947, during the 19th stage of the first post-war Tour de France. This Vannes-Saint-Brieuc time-trial - 139 km, the longest in the history of the Tour. The value of including a stage of 139 km against the clock, has been debated before and even more afterwards since it ruined three weeks of racing for Vietto and the whole French team in 4 hours. Vietto, suffers a terrible breakdown on the Côte de Mûr. He finishes 14 min 40 s behind Impanis, the winner of stage 15. Robic finishes brilliant second and moves up from fifth to third place overall, 2 min 58 s behind the new yellow jersey Brambilla. There are two stages left and Robic finally wins the Tour.
The Tour climbs the Côte de Mûr in 2004 and 2006. Mûr-de-Bretagne is the finish town of the 4th stage of the Tour de France 2011 and of the 8th stage of the Tour de France 2015.
During the 6th stage of the Tour de France 2018, starting in Brest, the Côte de Mûr is climbed twice, the finish of the stage being at the top, after the 2nd climb preceded by a loop through Saint-Mayeux and St Gilles Vieux Marché. It was Dan Martin who took the victory there.
In 2021 Mathieu van der Poel won the second stage of the Tour de France in impressive fashion. On the penultimate climb of the Mur he went on the attack and earned himself a bonus second. In the final climb of the Mur he went on the attack again and the Dutchman finished first on the Mûr-de-Bretagne. He also took the yellow jersey.
