Description
The Col de Gastangarté is a steep and demanding climb in the Basque Country, known for its short but intense gradients, often exceeding 15% to 20% in sections. The narrow, winding road passes through a mix of wooded areas and open pastures, with traditional Basque farmhouses scattered along the route. The surface can be rough in places, adding to the challenge, especially on wet days. With little traffic, the climb feels remote and peaceful, but the steep inclines require a strong effort. At the top, riders are rewarded with wide views of the surrounding hills and valleys, making the effort worthwhile before a technical descent.
