Descripción
Part of the route of Stage 2 in the 2014 Tour de France, for most local riders this is a road of necessity rather than pleasure. It’s part of a busy A-road connecting the Wharfe and Nidd (Washburn) Valleys and as such is subject to much local freight and general motor traffic. The surface is often poor and is occasionally closed due to land slips. A new road running parallel is planned and might provide some relief to local cyclists when (if) it opens. Once you summit you can enjoy a long descent towards the River Wharfe at Bolton Bridge and the nearby Bolton Abbey. As well as the nearby priory ruins, you can also stop for tea & cake (or a doppio espresso, of course) in one of the many tea and coffee shops in the village. For those craving more climbing, take a left turn towards the tiny village of Beamsley and then head over “Langbar” when you can enjoy a tough ascent with ramps reaching 15%. Mind the sheep on the way…
