Descripción
In 2008 Alejandro Valverde kept up his strong run of success (he won the Dauphiné Libéré and was first in the Spanish road championships) when he sprinted to his first-ever Tour de France yellow jersey in Plumelec. The Caisse d'Epargne rider uncorked his characteristic fast uphill finishing gallop to overhaul Kim Kirchen, passing the Team Columbia rider with approximately 200 meters to go and opening up a one-second gap on the 46-man lead group by the line.
The 2016 European Championships were supposed to take place in Nice, but after the terrorist attack on 14 July 2016 in that city, they moved to Plumelec. The finish was always on top of the Côte de Cadoudal. This climb is known from the Grand Prix of Plumelec.
