Descripción

The most emblematic climb of the whole of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and at the end of the seventies and eighties, the one which almost always decided the race. Introduced to the race of Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 1975. Traditionally it’s where the big favorites know they have to be at the front and getting in the moves. The climb starts off gently in the middle of a Remouchamps, underneath a motorway bridge then a right-hander is where it really begins to steepen. Up till 20% of climbing.

Perhaps the best known is the Redoute of the 1999 edition. Michele Bartoli goes from head to toe, and it is Michael Boogerd who reacts. But then Frank Vandenbroucke rams on a monster move past Boogerd, to just behind the leader. What follows is a memorable sprint-à-deux, purely for the honor of being too far from the finish line to be decisive. Everything came together again after that power development.
