Descripción
The monument near the water tower commemorates four civilians and the Hendel family. They hid nearby in a self-built bunker, located in the middle of a marshy forest area, to escape the German Wehrmacht. The four Luxembourgish men evaded the compulsory German military service and stayed in the bunker until Luxembourg was liberated for the first time in September 1944. The Hendel family fled to the hideout during the Battle of the Bulge to avoid possible reprisals from the Gestapo for helping the deserters. The self-built bunker has since decayed; only this monument, which provides more information, still serves as a reminder of the bunker and the civilians who hid nearby.
